If you got an essay question for crime about the theme and challenge which talks about the effectiveness of legal and non-legal measures in achieving justice, what are some non-legal measures examples, bc isn't this whole topics literally legal measures?

so could i just do like 2 paras on legal responses and then 1 on non-legal?
but we don't actually learn about it in this topic, so do how do I write a whole para on it?
yea u do 2 legal, 1 non-legal never do more legal than non-legal

there is low weighting on how good ur non-legal is, can still get 23/25 or 13/15 + with a shit non-legal, just gotta do your own research and evaluate as much as possible.

non-legal measures are those that aren't specifically provided for in some form of statute or case law, so the category is quite broad. the most convenient resources for legal studies essays are papers and reports published by law reform committees and other organisations, that generally investigate the state of the law to recommend courses of action for its reform. by the very nature of those papers, they are perfect for legal studies essays, which also invite an observation of the state of the law and its strengths and shortcomings, the contributing factors to such, and recommend manners in which substantive reform can be carried out.

oh thank you so much, that rlly helps!
so just clarifying, i could do two paras on legal as per normal, and then for the non-legal para instead of using cases and legislation, i would just use papers/reports/media articles?

i would think it is better to integrate them organically into your arguments. if you're just talking about cases and legislation, you're just regurgitating information and presenting no critical argument as to the question, unless for example, you're comparing dicta between competing authorities which is rare to see in a legal studies paper. briefly explaining the statute, the case law interpreting it, then using reports and media articles as references to form an argument as to the state of law is going to be more effective as a whole in most circumstances.
