my mother got her b/arts at mac in may 84, and her dip/ed at mac in dec 88... but i was born somewhere in the middle there, so that probably would've delayed it a tad.
Yeah at all unis (except for syd), you usually do a course related to what you want to teach (B Arts for English) and then do a 1 year Dip Ed after you have completed that.
or you can be like my english teacher, who completed an LLB, found out he didn't want to be a lawyer, and so changed to teaching, but yeah, generally a DipEd, and an arts degree would pbly be most appropriate. but you can even do heaps of stuff in tafe, i know a maths teacher at my school who just has a diploma, not degree
