Would they both be ranked 1st? Will the other people in the class move up a rank since there are two people at the same position?

Also how would it affect their externals?

There will be two people ranked 1st.

The order will be 1, 1, 3, 4, 5 etc.

As always, the moderated assessment mark for the highest ranked student will be the highest HSC exam mark of any student. But in this case, it will be the average of the two highest HSC exam marks.

E.g. student D achieves 97 and student P achieves 95, and since these are the two highest HSC exam marks of the cohort, the two people ranked 1st will receive 96 for their moderated assessment marks.

E.g. student A and student B are both ranked 1st. Student A achieves 97 and student B achieves 93, and since these are the two highest HSC exam marks of the cohort, they both receive 95 for their moderated assessment mark. This means student A's final HSC mark is 96, and student B's final HSC mark is 94.

Everyone keeps their own exam mark, no matter what rank.

(NB: moderation occurs before aligning, but their aligned marks are the ones used in the above scenarios)
