what the hell is gene expression..... !?

Basically gene expression is the process of going from DNA ---> RNA (mRNA) ---> protein.

therefore, a gene is expressed (in the protein). e.g hair colour, expressed by protein, is made by genes.

genes can be present, but not expressed, too.

basically one gene -> one polypeptide -> part of a protein. (Proteins such as enzymes [for metabolism], muscles), and many proteins can = cells. If a gene goes wrong, the polypeptide goes wrong, and so does the protein. if it is an enzyme, it will not act upon its substrate, which can be quite disastrous.
