i never got around to finding out what this actually means. i see it popping up everywhere so i figured it was an important thing to know...
anyone care to explain..?

it's kinda like contrast
e.g. the white is juxtaposed with black

Usually the contrasting things placed side by side as to give a particular effect/meaning to the text.

it's a fancy schmancy way of saying "closely contrasted" and, yes, as santaslayer said, is important in giving meaning.

just remember, 'juxtaposition' is a technique that does not only apply to written texts - it is also used in describing visual texts.
