Social Science and Policy*
Why study Social Science and Policy?
Are you attracted to careers that deal with organisations, communities, politics, the economy, and their interaction on human relations? Then you are interested in the growing field of social science. Increasingly, the social sciences are playing an important role in understanding and managing change in the private, public and community sectors.
Our Social Science and Policy programs have an applied social research and policy analysis focus. They bring together knowledge, methods and ideas derived from all the social sciences, and apply them to the analysis of 'real world' problems.
The programs have a strong vocational orientation. They aim to provide students with skills that are appropriate to a wide range of employment opportunities in applied social science for government, community organisations, private corporations or consulting firms.
The first step towards a career in social science is to enrol in one of the Bachelor of Social Science programs or include a major in Policy Studies in the Bachelor of Arts program.
Structure of the Program
The Bachelor of Social Science program includes a core sequence in Social Science and Policy which focuses on skills in Social Theory research methods, policy analysis, communication (including the writing of submissions and research proposals) and the analysis and interpretation of research data.
