.......maccas. ;)
sorry. just a joke - please don't anyone get offended. i was considering an arts degree!

b. arts is the broadest degree in my opinion, so you can pretty much get a job in any field you like... however because you haven't specialised a lot of companies would overlook you for someone else.

In my opinion, it is best to combine arts with some other more practical degree. (practical in terms of employable anyway) Employers like arts degrees cos arts people usually have more generic skills like essay writing, analysis, logic thinking kinda things, whereas something like science could be passed by say memorising the textbook.... blatant generalising here of course. :p

haha hell no im considering arts. as u said, given my techish [that even a word?] nature id full suck at arts. im just curious cos from my perspective all these ppl doin arts r like gonna come out the way they went in. dunno.

but yeah, those jobs u listed r like kinda broad, as in ppl with other skills can take em up as well. e.g. politics, u can prolly be a law guy that has a passion for politics, and im not even sure wat public admin is. is it like a dude that bosses ppl around publically? pfft u dont need an arts degree to do that in that case..

well anyway, i respect ppl with arts degrees nonetheless cos the way i figure is they [probably] do it for fun. dunno? like my english tutor doin his phd in sociology "for fun". lol. and he himself is like dunno wat jobs he can get with an arts deg. so i just curious :)

get a PhD and work at a university or a teacher...I guess those are the most rewarding jobs from a Bachelor of Arts

my brother did arts here at newy, then got half way through doing his post grad thesis at unsw and got a job in the department of foreign affairs and trade. in two years he will be a fully fledged diplomat, probably in south korea, and he is already on 40k a year

so it can be good

im aiming for a b. arts and this is exactly what i want to do.

i fucking hate people that think arts is a going nowhere bludge degree with no opportunities.. it's ridiculous . it's not always just "for fun". if you like maths, does that mean you do accounting "for fun"? no. just because arts is humanities-based, that does not make it any different, or any less valid.

you can also specialise in a particular area of arts through a post graduate or even a doctorate... both incredibly impressive achievements.

The cut offs for some arts courses are so high too, it's def not a bludge degree.

BA (Media and Comm) at USyd- 98.5
The communications courses at UTS are mostly in the high 90's.

I'm going to do arts, and I'm proud of it!!!! And I certainly am not going to end up at Maccas. (My parents own a pizza shop, so if worse comes to worse..... lol)

arts advanced rules

2 of my friends are doing it (at usyd), they both like it... and they get intereting subjects. the good thing about it is you can do 2nd year subjects if you want to, without doing the leadup first year...

Definitely really high UAIs - I think what we're trying to say isn't that B.A students are stupid or incapable of studying for some other degree but rather that the job prospects when an Arts student comes out are noticeably less obvious than, say, for a Civil Engineer.

A BA can be very boring.

I agree with what people are saying in some respects, but if it is what you love you will do well at it and find a job where you can use your skills.

BA is very good for languages. and of course a person with an extra language could just scrape you in for that second interview when going for a job.

but i ask you, do u know for sure what job you're going to end up with regardless of your degree? will you be following it for your entire life? surely your career pathway will change... when you're 40, and approaching a mid=-life crisis and thinking of a change in career, would you go back to your old "just finished HSC" days and still follow the same decision of an 18 year old? surely not.

and that person's tutor who's doing a PhD "for fun".... maybe thats what he says to you, but i doubt thats his true reasons. he must have a passion or curiosity of some kind. must.
