What kind of scholarships do the guys who got 99.95 and 100 get?? Is it actually automatic i.e. no interview etc?

And what about the guys who got 99.9? (such as the dux of my school this year) - it's kind of slack if they don't get anything isn't it???

I only know about USyd. They offer an automatic scholarship of $5,000 p.a. to anyone who gets 99.95+, the same value as their undergraduate scholarship, the highest tier of the scholarships which you have to apply for. AFAIK, 99.90 counts for nothing :p ... oh well.

USyd has 5g's for up to 5 years. And if you did really good in a subject, you could possibly get an 8g a year for 5 year scholarship.

(Man, it's times like these I'm pissed off I had to fight for a 5g a year, damn 99.95ers.)

Unless they have changed it *again*, USyd abolished their 8k scholarships.

That's interesting, the word of that certainly doesn't spread as much as the one at USyd. Is it for everyone who applies like sydney uni?

I don't know...I certainly hadn't heard of it until I tore open the express mail package this morning. :D I don't even know who they offer it to - it didn't specifically mention my UAI either (which was 100) just something about outstanding achievement - so I can't pinpoint the criteria. And uh, UNSW wasn't my first preference either.

So basically, I know nothing except that it exists and it lasts one year less than USyd's. Oh, and it came with the high achievers invitation.

It may be only for 100's, as picky and cheap as that seems. Another 100 friend recieved the offer also. Apparently, it's a relatively new scholarship - something like first year of implementation (just to compete with USyd in bribing kids, I bet.)

Last year, UNSW offered $6000 outright to anyone with 100, regardless of faculty. No scholarships were offered purely on academic ability.

I think UNSW wants to keep its record as the destination of choice for the majority of 100'ers

A lot of 100ers would end up at UNSW anyway coz of Medicine, and the rest probably end up at USyd for Law.

Suppose you came 1st in the state in Ext 2 Maths, but screwed up English and ended up with 98.xx could you still be offered a scholarship into Advanced Mathematics or Commerce (Actuarial Studies)??
