Bit of background, im currently in year 12 and i want to pursue psychology and masters in clinical. Ive been talking to a few relatives, graduates and the careers advisor and from what i understand, what uni i go doesnt matter. Western Sydney Uni is the closest to me, but with my marks so far and having done advanced math hsc already, i am confident i can get into usyd but probably not unsw. Now should i prioritise prestige and potentially better tutors and lecturers over comfort and ease? Im not sure. I believe wsu would be less competitive to get into honours but now im at a point where i cant really choose what uni. Any thoughts?

Go USYD or UNSW if u can. Whoever fed u info that wtv uni u go to doesn't matter is sort of wrong but thats another story. I got entry into the USYD degree and I maybe could've got into the UNSW one~ didn't put it as a pref as I was set on USYD for various reasons: (btw I ended up accepting a different USYD offer lol)
- location/easy to get there + its in the city
- Cool campus
- For psych + honours, both unis are quite similar- equally as good
- prestige
- USYD also offers clinical psych (masters) so had I chosen to do psych + honours, I would prefer if I did both undergrad and postgrad at USYD

Ik for USYD (and I think UNSW as well) has the honours program built-in, so all u need to do is maintain a WAM of like 65+ (non-competitive) to stay in the honours program whereas ppl that want to 'transfer' into the honours program from another degree (e.g. psychological science or BScience**) need to get a WAM of 70 or 75+ (competitive) to get in.

** U can also do psychology without honours. UNSW calls it psychological science and I think for USYD, its js under the BScience as a major or program or smth.

tldr if u can get into USYD (or UNSW) psych with honours built-in, that would give u a somewhat straight path into the honours program without having to apply for it after (a 65 WAM should be easy enough to maintain).

Sidenote: Im pre sure Macquarie Uni also has a strong psychology department so thats also defo something to consider. I would also avoid doing psych at UTS cos I'm pre sure they only added it last yr or smth.- U dont wanna be the uni's guinea pig for a new degree.
