Tutorial: class where students are encouraged to discuss matters with each other. kinda more like your highschool classes.
tutor:student ratio --- 1:23

lecture: Person talking in front, gives an overview of the subject and you take notes (ideally) lecturer:student --- 1: 200+

Lab: depends on your course. e.g. commerce labs would be computing work where chem labs would be science experiments.. (I'd assume) small class. 1:25

And slightly more important for all those mark lovers.

Tutorial: no marks awarded (unless there's a test during a tutorial time or attendence)

Lucture: no marks awarded

Laboratory: marks given for both attendence and work done

I has a seminar last year and that basically involved students giving talks on certain topics to the class. There may be different interpretations of what a seminar is at UNSW....I'm not sure.

The seminar I did didn't involve each person doing one every week. Each person only did one for the entire term and the different seminars were spread out over different weeks.

Although this is generally correct, there are exceptions. For example, accounting has homework checks once in a while, some has attendance marks, and some has "participation" marks such as comp1091 (discontinued course). There's even a lecturer who marks attendance(which is rare in general though).

So you should, as a minimum attend all tutorials and labs. lectures could usually be skipped(without affecting grades directly, unless there's a test on)

Thats like setting a duel time.

before or after breakfast?

for me, its a convenience thing. but a tip is..
set your accounting/finance/qma tuts as late in the week as possible. :)

The usual way to go about it is to set your tutorial after lectures. That way you learn the stuff in the lecture first then 'reinforce' it in the tutorial.
