When do the UMAT results come out?
I've heard the 9th, the 12th and "late september." Hopefully we get them before UAC preferences are due...

Preferences aren't due until around 05 January anyway. It's only registration that closes on 30 September, and even then you've still got the option of late registration.

Preferences can (and for many people should) be changed any time between registration and the cut-off time for free (unlike, as I understand it, in Victoria).
