you'll need it to join most clubs/societies (which is quite annoying )
I know it's kinda expensive, but you can also get discounts on food and other stuff

yes, you will need an access card to join any club or society (the only exceptions to my knowledge are faculty societies eg. Arts or Law etc).

As well as the locations in funnytomato's links during o-week (ie. for tomorrow), there is a large white tent set up on eastern avenue (opposite law lawns) which also sell access cards. Look for the large queue and people in red access t-shirts.
