I see my scaled mark for Mathematics Extension 1 is lower than my aligned mark and my scaled mark for Mathematics Extension 2 is not that much higher: bummer.

Wait a minute! Does HSC mark mean aligned mark; the mark the Board gives us?
It does doesn't it.

What do you mean by 'scales better'?

If you are merely looking for the scaled means of subjects goto: http://www.boredofstudies.org/scaledmeans.php

It really depends what you mean. Most courses had a top mark of 50.0 (on a one-unit basis); the scaled means do not tell you the amount of marks your scaled marks will go up by. (If you got an HSC mark of 40/50 in Classical Greek Extension in 2003, your scaled mark wouldn't be 59.5/50.) The scaled mean AND the standard deviations are a good guide, though.

If you go into SAM and look at the Scaling Profiles for each subject, that'll give you a good idea.
