ughh,, ive been forced to go back to explorer to post this!

basically, my problem is what the title says - absolutely nothing comes up, firefox start page doesnt load, just the browser freezes. tried rebooting and the usual crap, nothing works. wtf is going on? i dont have an antivirus or anything so this is freaking me out.

ctrl + alt + del, make sure firefox.exe isnt running in the processes.

if it is, end it and try again.

Upgrade, then if its still freezing up, it might be a corrupt profile.

As a precaution, could you post a hijackthis log?

I think it might've gotten hijacked or perhaps you might have a virus, just as aprecaution, do an online scan and a hijackthis log if you could be bothered :)

could be a corrupted firefox database
you will have to manually delete the hidden firefox directory

first you must save your bookmarks!

C:\Documents and Settings\"YOUR COMPUTER USER NAME"\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\mg9upm4k.default\

last folder is randomly generated so might have different name...go in that directory and you should see "bookmarks.html"
that's all your bookmarks
make a copy and put it somewhere safe
check that it is the correct bookmarks.html file

now uninstall firefox using the standard windows "add/remove" program in control panel

now go to
C:\Documents and Settings\"YOUR COMPUTER USER NAME"\Application Data\

and delete the entire "Mozilla" folder including everything inside!

reinstall firefox

should work hopefully!

the new version fixed it tho so i'm surprised.

Have you tried Firefox (Safe Mode)? On one occasion my Firefox just wouldn't start and Safe Mode allowed me to disable the plugin that was giving me grief.

Argh !

Go to start > programs > Mozilla > Firefox (Safe Mode)

And see if that opens normally.
