the key and copy that was made available on the day it was released had been to the manufacturers. there are plenty of pics and articles on the web (and at microsoft's website) on the launch of windows xp with fancy helicopters, 6 briefcases for the 6 oems (dell, hp, compaq, ibm, gateway, sony) -- that was the EXACT same copy from devils0wn (byte for byte), since they were all VLM's (volume licensing media), and required VLKs (volume licensing keys) -- the one which had spread all over the net had been the dell key (from dell
