Windows messenger comes built in with win xp. How can i get rid of it?

or, you know when you want to log in at the start, there is the pull-down menu that stores all previous e-mail addresses that have logged in. Any way to clear this ?

Cheers

How do I remove Windows Messenger from Windows XP?
They do make it hard, don't they? Good for you d0pestar knows just how to remove Windows Messenger from Windows XP once and for all:

1) Go to Start > Run

2) Type this exact commando (you might want to copy paste):

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%INFmsmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

3) Oh my God, you killed Windows Messenger! ;)

If for some reason this doesn't work for you, try this:

1) Open a file named sysoc.inf with Notepad or another text editor. This file can be found in a folder named INF, which is a subfolder of the Windows folder (or in some cases the winnt folder, depending on how your OS was installed).

2) Look for the following line:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

and remove the word "hide" while leaving the commas on place. Close and save the file.

3) Now open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel, and you will be able to remove Windows Messenger like any other program.

Ok first method gives me an error:

Error: COuld not locate INF file C:\WINDOWSINFmsmsgs.inf

Second method...it doesnt show up in the add/remove list.

Actually, i tried this instead now:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%/INF/msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Adding some / to tell it where to look. Gave me some error msg saying couldn't deregister some OCX 2541 or sum number. Then it started deleting stuff. I rebooted and it appears win messenger is gone.

Try and reinstall Windows Messenger before you try the first option.

How do I remove unwanted emails from the sign-in list?
Click the Start Button, then open up 'Control Panel' and choose 'User Accounts'. Click on your Windows XP username and then on the left hand side, under 'Related Tasks', click 'Manage my Network Passwords'. From here you can delete the ones you dont want marked with '(Passport)'.
