Well i got mine out on Monday at midday and i had no problems apart from the usual hard to talk coz the mouth is swollen.

TUesday i went to my eye doc apt and then to a work training hting, and nearly passed out. When i was waiting for the eye doc, i found that my tongue just wanted to hang out, but i manged to get it back in and clench my teeth which hurt and later gave me the feeling that i was getting my jaw ripped apart so that wasnt a good feeling. Got home and was all fine and dandy until the evening when my tongue wanted to hang out more. I went to bed thinking nothing of it, coz the nurse who checked up on me earlier that day said it was normal and will go away in a few days time.

Wednesday comes around...and gee my tongue hangs out all the time, adn its making eating youghurt virtualy impossible. I get pissed off with my tongue coz i dont want it. later that night mum rang me and when she found out about my tongue and the fact that i wasnt able to get it in or talk at all apart from a few ahs and stuf, muffled words, she said she was coming over to my place to get me to a hosspital.

So she arrives about 11pm, and im sitting in teh dining room just shaking uncontrolably and my head is facing my right shoulder and just staying there. She immediately calls me an ambulance and they arrive in about 10mins-the beauty of living so close to the main hospital in Brisbane lol.

They were confused about what was going on, and asking if i was epileptic and mum said no. They got me to the RBH and i was still shaking and droling heaps and stiff as but i could somehow move my arms if i tried. I found my eye sight was very blurry which wasnt good. and the docs and nurses were aksking if i felt better, and trying to get me to talk,..bit hard when your tongue is hanging out!!

So they gave me some valium to settle the shakes and that did help. THen mum found some Maxalon in my bag and showed the doctors and they wre like ooohhhh that explains everything!! THey said that i got dystonic reaction to the maxalon and hence the reason for my shakes. After that they said we dont need a CT scan. So i stayed in over night...well it was prob about 3am that they found the maxalon, and so yeah i spent the night there.

My brother came with mum which was nice and he was getting rather sleepy, and even when i kept teling him to get a cab backt o my place, he didnt want to go, he wanted to stay with me and mum which was really nice. They ended up gonig back to my place around 3.30am i think and mum then came back around 8 or so.

so yeah...that was pretty eventful. So glad i only have to endure the teeth out only once! And i know now that i am allergic to maxalon..Hopeuflly my tongue gets better soon, coz now i have a MASSIVE ulcer on the left side of my tongue from where i was clamping down on my tongue to try adn get it to stay in....

well if htey are at odd angles, thats an impactd tooth...impacted coz we dont have enough room in our jaw to get it straight. As a result, the impacted teeth put pressure on your other teeth and hence push them out of alignment which is annoying if you've spent thousands getting them corrected, only to need them corrected again. But if you go to surgeon, its expensive coz Medicare doesnt do a rebate for wisdom teeth extraction..but they will give you money back from the consultation.

I am so glad that I only have needed my wisdom teeth out..dotn want to go through that again....mainly coz im so vague and confused and stuff now..not sure if its from the valium or what...coz i like Tuesday night, i found that i was getting confused, thinking that i was in the hospital and that someone was trying to get my tongue back in, but i couldnt feel my mouth..

wisdom teeh take AAAGES to grow. I'm due for the dentists next week, my back left tooth is poking through. It's slightly impacted so I think it may have to go.

Just remember to clean them well (actually brush them), use mouthwash AND floss.
If they get infected your fucked.

i got mines surgically removed before they started actually growing out of the gums in yr9. way less painful in my opinion. if i let them grow they'd have pushed all my other teeth crooked =]

Hm well my brother got his out 2 days ago under a local and I told him that would be a big mistake, coz his teeth are crooked and so his wisdom teeth would be like that too...but no he insisted on saving a few more hundred and just going local. Well mum told me that he could feel most of it the whole time and he was in so much pain. serves him right for not going general.

If your teeth are impacted, get them out under a general, or sedation at least. And if your given maxalon and your tongue starts hanging out, and you start fitting, get striaght to the ER....

what do you mean by tardive? Is that the shakes? Thing is, i dindt react to any antipsychotic...it was maxalon a simple antiemetic thats given milions of times. When I go on prac, most patients will have it prescribed just in case they need it. I guess the difference wtih me having it this time was that I took it every 4 hours just in case I would get nauseated....

I was thinking about it the other day, and I was seeing if I could get my tongue out that length again and I cant! I can only get it out a bit, nothing like I had it when i had the dystonia! The thing that was annoying for me, when I dindt have a clue what it was and thinking it was normal, was my tongue just drooling, the pain from trying to stay in, and my muscles just tensing up.

Yeah, the doctors all wrote dystonia on my medical certificates.
I have so many bloody medical certificiates for the past 2 wks:
1 from the eye doctor
1 from the oral surgeon for my wisdom teeth
1 from the ER doc for work, and one for uni
1 from the GP,
1 from the other ER doctor.

Ive never had so many medical certificiats lol.

that sounds like good advice.

also, try not to poke the teeth (with your tongue, etc) because this may cause inflammation.. (i think)

lol well I had to do a bit of poking to get rid of all the food i ate tonight at work...someone brought in pizza lol. yummy. So good to be able to eat proper food again.

PrettyVacant, how is that gross???

I ahve noticed though yesterday when I was looking at my tongue to see how its 'healing', that I have white lines in the bottom, and Im assuming that is still my stitches? I assumed they'd be like camoflauge lol. But I did rinse my mouth out and stuff like that, well not Thurs-Sat coz i was at my aunts but I was brushing my teeth between attempting to eat and stuff. But i dont rinse with warm salty water now...didnt think i need to do it a wk after getting them out?? I was given antibiotics just in case I got any infection.

But im seeing the oral surgeon on Friday, was meant to be Monday but he had smething else come up so htey have to move it to Friday...oh well find out then if its normal..

Also what happens to the gap? Does bone grow there or do you just have to be really careful with brushing and stuff??

I didn't even lose my last baby teeth until I was like 14 (the buggers wouldn't come out, I had to get them taken out because my adult teeth were pushing them out), so I'm thinking my wisdom teeth won't come for a while. They haven't shown up on an xray yet.

But there isn't room in my mouth for my existing teeth, let alone wisdom teeth. I anticipate much grief when wisdom teeth arrive. I need some teeth taken out as it is.

I unfortunately laughed at the (dunno if intentional) grim humour contained in that unfortunate and hopefully not traumatic story

My wisdom teeth region have been hurting for like the last 2 years, and there's often a weird taste from that area

Had an OPG a few months ago, haven't had time to go back to the dentist though :(

Part of my reluctance is they all seem to give varying opinions...doesn't really inspire confidence..the first one I went to didn't even pick up the impaction, just said it was some minor mouth infection and he'd give me a clean..what a f***ing twat.

Also, have there been any cases of people going under general anaesthetic and not waking up? It's a bit of a phobia of mine...

You have to show them that you're really not scared, you're playing with your life this aint truth or dare, they'll kick and they'll beat you, and they'll tell you it's fair, so beat it, but you want to be fair...

Beat itttttttttttt, just beat it!

if you get your teeth out under a general, its done in a day surgery theatre, and the anaesthetist will give you a light general compared to a heavy one that will make you drowsy for a long time. And the period that you are under a general is generally under an hr or so, I got my bill from the anaesthetist and it says I was only under for 25mins....whcih is VERY quick for wisdom teeth extraction..but oh well.

lol it was traumatic in a way! its so annoying just sitting there tyring to do uni assignments and stuff and drooling away and you cant do anything. More traumatising was when i was trying to get the tongue back in and I was biting down so hard on my tongue that it really hurt!

Um its $500 something, but if i pay by start of October its only $423. WHihc is cheap...and he's one of those specialist anaesthetists. THe one I was going to see if I did go ahead with the eye surgery was a specialist one and he wouldve been like $900!!!

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed at the start of the year. they weren't poking all the way through and the surgeon had to actually cut into my gums to get two out (this was done under general anaesthetic). I didn't really have any problems with the extraction, but the swelling lasted a few days and that was pretty painful. The pain medication i was prescribed made me really sick so I had to go to hospital to get a needle to stop me from vomiting.
you just have to remember to use the mouthwash heaps and keep your mouth clean. I made sure I did that and I was only off school for a couple of days, whereas others in my year who had it done were off school for around 3 weeks.
