Just a general thread.

Just three recent articles on the matter.

We all know that there is going to be a concerted push for reform with the Government seeking advice from employer and business groups... You would think that the Unions (and any other such groups) would be involved, no matter their policy beliefs, but it seems as though that will not be the case. I cannot see this as being right or practical, but in a world of increased economic productivity through the deregulation of the labour market it makes perfect sense.

On the issue of IR reform/employee rights, what do you all think?

---

Worker to employee... A more benign term for the contemporary debate, and one that may achieve something.

workers dont care about their rights as they do about the other IR - interest rates
thats why the liberals won the election
if the workers really cared they would have elected labor
labor would have revived the unions and restore their past glory
until then, the government will always be against unions and will seek to destroy the unions at every opportunity because they want the business vote, e.g. the wharfies in 1998

but in saying that, the ALP is trying to distance itself from the unions because of the fall in union membership
they are seeking to be seen more as a center-party rather than slightly left,
i suppose to be more appealing to middle australia (which decides elections)

Ok, let me just point out... maybe employees large businesses need union revival... but for many small businesses this would just be the nail in the coffin.
