When i checked the other thread on the world XI openers, it was Sehwag and Smith leading.

Well what about the middle order batsman. no 3 4 5. Select the three best middle order batsman to play against Australia.

*if you select kallis you will have two allrounders in the world XI Test team.

Also i have strauss and vaughan here even though they are in the openers section. cos ppl were complaining they were middle order batsman.

The great thing about Kallis is that he's such a great batsman and bowler that you don't need to feel like you're sacrificing either by including him. For tests though there's no real need to include a 2nd all rounder I'd think.

I went with Dravid, Kallis and Lara.

Dravid because he is, to me, the batting version of McGrath. An absolute machine.
Kallis because of his versatility, consistency, and blazing form.
Lara because he is the best batsman I have ever seen in action.

Honourable mentions to Tendulkar and Laxman.

Me too, Lara is the most amazing batsman to watch when on-song, he's a one man demolition of any attack on any surface.

Tendulkar of 4-5 years ago would get in easily but he plays so much more conservatively these days. I miss those big booming drives through the off-side and the arrogant flicks off the pads. It pains me to leave him out of the side.

Kallis has performed amazingly well over the past few years, he holds an incosistent batting lineup togethor, and is a good slipper as well. I wouldn't consider him an all-rounder any more as he doesn't really bowl anywhere near as much or as effectively as he did pre back injury, but he's a superb bat.

Dravid is the best batsman in the world. Amazingly solid, amazingly consistent. He's won the Indian team so many more matches than anyone else except maybe Kumble. He can play in all conditions against all attacks and would feel confident of coming here after their last tour down under, especially his amazing knocks in Adelaide and Sydney.

VVS and Inzi just miss out, but are still class acts.

I'd also go with Dravid, Lara, and Kallis .. plus, Hectic has pretty much nailed the argument as well.

Laxman? I think Sehwag would be better - especially against the aussies.
Kallis is a must. Strauss would depend on his form during the ashes.
Dravid would be good for #5 as the side needs a good defensive batsman.
I dont think Lara though. I havent been impressed by his form, or his ego.
Tendulkar hasn't the form at all, and Inzammam ul-haq??? The man has nightmares about Australia. But a smokey would be fleming.

I think for the tests you wouldnt need a specialist allrounder becasue you have kallis and also pollock. But for the one dayers Flintoff will probly get the job as a specialist allrounder depending on how he goes in the Ashes.
