The standard would more or less depend on the kind of contract you are trying to write.
That said, just about anything that sets out the details of the transaction with precise enough detail and has an evident intent to create a legally binding document, and there is consideration provided, is enforceable at common law or equity. Making a contract = time to see a lawyer, though. They know what the requirements are, where the pitfalls can be and how to cover your ass.
