Hi there!
My name is Sherwin and I’m a university maths & stats lecturer. I have over 10 years of teaching experience and have taught at all the main universities in Sydney. I consistently receive excellent feedback from students for the classes I teach.
I was one of the youngest students ever to do the HSC for maths. I did the advanced HSC maths exam when I was 13 and then did extension 1&2 exams when I was 14. I started university when I was 15 and would go on to complete a PhD in maths.
I’m now offering group classes for HSC Maths Advanced and Extension 1.
The Maths Advanced course I’ve designed is 31 weeks long while the Extension 1 course is 47 weeks long. However, I’ve split the courses into different stand-alone modules of 3-8 weeks duration each, so students can just register for a particular module rather than register for a whole term. The first lesson is free!
In each module, I take a topic and teach all of year 11 and year 12 for that topic. So the classes are best for year 11 students. Year 12 students can still benefit, if they are ok with the fact that some of the lessons will be revision for them. I've listed the contents and the dates each module is running in the attached files.
For Mathematics Advanced, the next module (module 3) begins on 28th April and runs for six weeks. It covers logs, exponentials, arithmetic/geometric sequences & series and applications to finance problems. It’s offered at the following times/locations:
Each class is 3.5 hours long, including a 20 min quiz at the very start and a 10 min or so break in the middle. All the lessons are taught from the state-of-the-art classrooms, and I will share all the notes I write on the projector with you after class. You’ll also be provided homework problems each week that are a mix of drill, conceptual and exam-style questions. If you had any struggles with these, you could then ask me for help on a forum which I will be monitoring. The cost for all this is $150 per week.
If you’re interested or would like more info, please email me on sherwin@sherwinMaths.com.au or contact me on 0422 429 456. You can also reach me via Instagram @sherwin_maths_tutoring. I have a website too but can't give the link here due to the forum rules.
If you wanted to go ahead, I will then organise a zoom catch up with you just so I can gauge what level your maths is at, to see if the classes are right for you. These classes are best for students who have a decent maths background and are not quite satisfied with the teaching they're receiving at school or just want a bit of an edge. If you’re struggling because you have a lot of gaps in your maths knowledge from previous years, then I don't think group classes are the best idea. You would probably be better off finding a good one-on-one tutor instead to address your gaps first.
Thanks
Sherwin
