I use AOL Instant Messenger occasionally, but MSN's the most convenient since it syncs straight with Hotmail. Yahoo and AIM both require new accounts to use, which is irritating.

I agree, pretty much the only reason I still stick with Hotmail. As soon as I pop into MSN (which I use alot), it tells me straight away if I've got any new emails. And of course whilst I'm on msn chatting away, any new emails arriving.. I get notified instantly. :D

Except AIM...and any others which don't connect with you hotmail account.

I use MSN mainly and AIM to speak to some o/s friends...they hate MSN, don't know why.

With messenger plus you can set up msn to notify you of new mails on any email account with pop3.

Oh and yeh msn is the dominate IM in the Australian market. You usually have only one dominating in a country as the various im networks cant connect to each other.

Actually you can create a Yahoo ID using a non Yahoo email address, just like how you can sign up for a .NET passport without a Hotmail or MSN email address. You do have to sign up for a Yahoo ID though.

If you have friends on multiple IM programs, Gaim or Trilian is compatible with most of them.
