So I've just begun my year 10 SRP on the effect the length of the string of a pendulum has on its period and have a few questions as I don't believe I get to ask my teacher (it's kind of strict, no devices + not allowed to bring book for the report home + no science notes that wasn't our classwork + can only refer to information from our topic's reference sheet and textbooks + same topic = you can't sit on the same table, no feedback on draft, every teacher marks a specific topic) which is why it's unlikely I can really get any answers.

For the research (essentially the pendulum formula + definitions of related terms), how should I place it in my report, or specifically how do I relate this to my aim and hypothesis as it essentially already proves my hypothesis? My draft hypothesis is "To investigate", however should I change this to something else such as "To observe" or "To measure"?
Also, I'm confused about how I should do a control test for this experiment as I can't really set the independent variable (length of string) to zero as it wouldn't be a pendulum anymore.

damn seems like smn you'd see more in a yr 11 test icl. Can't you do smn simpler?

That's literally one of the easy ones 😐
Unless you are doing just a general observation and some basic calcs, it's sort of overdoing it for a year 10 srp. I did a galvanic cell experiment in my old school- whilst it was a pretty ok mark, there were several others who got the same but with easier experiments. The thing they'll be assessing you on is how you conduct an experiment and accordingly present your findings and results on a piece of paper (or in this case into a doc). Same thing applies for your senior years. If you do not understand SHM, force analysis, drag force, etc it will become exceedingly confusing.

I suggest though if you do persist to use an exemplar for your 'structure' it should save you the hassle of knowing where to put what

I still don't really know what to do for my control test and my research in relation to my aim/hypothesis, as my science notes and google classroom resources (and the practice ones we did) don't really align to my situation. As for my marking criteria, I don't remember much detail except there's a lot (40 marks but I wouldn't count one)

Please note, when my class did an experiment on the pendulum's oscillation 3 years ago, it didn't involve calculating the pendulum formula, so idk if this pdf will be any help to you.

I suppose for my control test I could probably place in a middle value (as observed in your sheet) and generate some yap about why it's a good control test, though I'm still unsure if it'll reasonably pass. Thanks for the pdf!

my school did the same sort of stuff and we arent ranked that high. honeslty some schools like to briefly skim prelim and hsc content to like mildly familiarise kids with them so by the time we get to that sort of thing we have seen the content before.

like in y10 we did like 1 mod of prelim chem, phys and bio (not necessarily mod 1 but just one of the mods) and did a random titration prac too (mod 6, i have no clue why we did it icl). it confused me soo much back then but honestly i appreciate it bc the first mod we did in y11 were the same mods we did in y10 so it was like having extra time to learn things.
