Its really a matter of your own performance now in the HSC given that internals are not really going to affect you as you are first in most your subjects. So a 99 is possible in this sense.

School rank is bad and the realist in me says my physics and english rankd won't change. Can I still hit high 99s assuming I do well enough in externals? (What about mark stealing and all that crap)

Like I said previously, your exam mark will most likely determine your HSC mark as you exam and assessment marks will end up being similar.

Mark stealing?

Basically. Other than rank 1 and last, all numerical rank values are meaningless. The determinant behind you assessment mark are the relative gaps inbetween the ranks.

So the myth, 'ohhh look im 2nd/3rd im at a mega disadvantage, because 1st gets the highest mark' is FALSE.

Say for example, in your case you are 3rd. cumulative percentage wise you are 0.4% off first. If the highest exam mark is a 96. Your moderated assessment mark will be similar to 1sts, if not, 96 itself.
