hey.....to everyone that does IPT....is it true that IPT will scale u DOWN unless u get a really high mark above 90 or something???

i heard that yesterday and i was like  NO WAAYYYY!!!

please tell....its making me lose confidence and motivation, knowing that i have to do exceptionally well to get a good mark or it will drag me down!!

yeah it scales down
everything scales down (except for 4U maths and latin continuers or something else obscure and random)

its just a matter of how MUCH it gets scaled down, so yeah you have to get a band 6 in IPT if you want a UAI in the high 80s/90s
fuck UAC they can go burn in a hole

i wouldn't worry about it too much now just study ur arse off and hope that your ranks are good

getting scaled down occurs when you achieve a very average result [usually in the 70s] of below average. getting a mark above that average won't pull you down so much, it just won't scale you up. get what i'm saying?

It's like general maths. getting a 78 or an 82 doesn't make that much of difference to your UAI, compared to other subjects.

Scaling happens, there isn't much you can do to change that. Just do your best and hopefully it work effect you so much.

Yeah IPT scales down, my marks will scale down a fair bit i reckon coz our teacher sucks heaps and our class doesnt bother to study that much so they will drag me down.. Oh well im doing 12 units so it wont count in my uai...

Well that is assuming IPT is your worsed subject, you never know it could count so I wouldn't be so certain of that - unless of course it is your worsed by far. ;)

Yea I was told that a while ago and my teacher is expecting me to get in the 90's for IPT , no pressure lol. At least if I do it should help the rest of my marks.

Familiarise yourself with random scenarios of implementations of new systems and
drawing different diagrams such as data flow diagrams, decision trees, data dictionaries, etc.
If you do Multimedia know how to calculate file sizes.

Otherwise it's just rote learning the theory.

In Physics te 05ers were slugged with a question saying "... and assess the reliability of your sources".
Basically, get your hands on as many textbooks and study guides as you can.
And/Or go up to a random electronic kiosk and find out the information processes involved and the environment.

IPT is about information systems.

i dont like data flow diagrams ... never understood how to draw them. i get confused.

so wat u reckon i should concentrate on more ...past exams or textbook ? considering the time left.

DFD's really aren't complicated. Just read through the scenario, underline when processes are occuring, then just identify the data stores and external entities. All that's left is filling in the lines of data flow, which is what the scenario says.

IPT will only affect it by how well you go. If you wind up with an aligned score of 85 then it will definitely help you out. Though if you bomb it and score, say a 60, then it will pull you down.

IPT doesnt scale completely badly, though it doesnt scale that well. You would obviously be better off if you got into the higher range though. It doesnt scale as badly as VET subjects. What did everyone think of the exam today?

Scaling isnt that bad. Just get a good result and you'll be fine.

Agriculture was my top UAI contributor and its a very bad scaling subject.

(And no i didnt go to ruse either)

Ah, nothing can be as bad and as confidence draining as being told by your IPT teacher that "Well girls, getting a raw of 99% in the HSC might been a scaled mark off 99%, but it'll most likely be lower than that."

You could almost see the whole class calculating whether they could afford to drop IPT after that.

IPT scalling isn't that bad. yeah it scales down. but thats only if you do average or below average.
Scaling works in favour for you once you hit the 80+ range scalling for IPT won't hit you hard. And getting a 90+ apparently gets you in the TOP aggetated scale. so your in the clear, as the Canditure is lower than other subs.

For the 2008 paper.
expect diagrams. as in DFD's, System Flow.etc and drawing them.
as there were NONE in the 2007 HSC.

Best way to Study. like always is PAST PAERS.
since you preety much regurgitate most answers that have been given in past hsc.

sorry, but i'm tired of doing the hard work. you can check yourself here, http://www.uac.edu.au/pubs/pdf/2007_table_A3.pdf

remember the scaled mark alone does not mean much, you can only analyse the data effectively by comparing it to how other subjects would have the same mark scaled.
