Who's in, what's the goal, and what subjects are you choosing? Two other majors or a major and a combination of other units?

atm I am thinking of majoring in International and Global Studies and Film Studies.

Well I got into Combined Law @ USYD (1st preference) and am at this stage most probably going to combine it with BA (Media and Comm.).

I'm thinking of studying within the arts stream either Beginner's French, Philosophy or Government and International Relations...still deciding..lol:)

Congrats on getting in:)

Yep BA (Meco)!

I haven't used BOS at all really... but thought it'd be ok to find out other people doing the course.

Majors- American Studies (which is senior- so I'll be doing some eng/hist/art hist subjects)
And I'm tossing between Govt and Int Relations and Political Economy...

Wait...isn't film studies a senior subject?: 7. Undergraduate units of study descriptions - Arts handbook - The University of Sydney

I think you'll have to study ENGL1025 (Fiction, Film and Power) as a prerequisite for Film Studies.

I'm hoping to do Film Studies or American Studies later, so at the moment, I'm looking at picking units from English and perhaps another language. The handbook and all the prerequisites are messing with my head, though I'm determined to get through it before I enrol on Thursday.

so, it seems engl1000: academic writing has morphed into writ1002: academic writing. according to information I read in this thread, engl1000 could count as part the 12 credits of junior units in order to start senior units in english. Now I'm struggling to find out if the same applies to the new version of the subject, or even anything explicitly stating that writ1002 is a compulsory unit for media + communications students (I assume it is, but most resources are still using the engl1000 terminology). Anyway, I would like to know for sure, so if anyone knows please raise your hand.

by the way, I'm enrolled to start this year. quite excited.

ok, I just found some information somewhat answering my own question. Some amendments are listed in relation to the 09 arts handbook, posted here, as follows:

Bachelor of Arts (Media and Communications): Core Units change – ENGL1000 replaced with any of WRIT1002, ENGL1007 or ENGL1025
Which is better than I expected!

Yep, it has now changed. I enrolled yesterday and am doing ARTH 1002, PHIL1013, WRIT1002, ENGL1025, GOVT1101, GOVT1105 as well as both MECO units(obviously). I am so excited!!

@media boy, your first post confused me a little. I'm doing ENGL1025 and ENGL1002. Since the first unit is compulsory, is there any possibility that it might not count as partof the 12 junior units to begin ENGL senior units? And, annoyingly, the link to the handbook updates is gone.

hmmm, I don't see why it couldn't be a prerequisite for senior english units as well as being a compulsory media and communications unit. But I don't really know the fine points of structuring a major and the degree's rules. If anyone knows for sure please let us know.

oh and they updated the file that I quoted from earlier in the thread, it is now here
