how different is lecture or tutor and high school teacher?
my high school, one of chemistry teacher absolutely
disliked students asking questions about content and
even hesitated to offer students chance to ask any questions
about assessment. eg- check on student's oral presentation
one or two days before assessment day.

i know this depends on lecturers and tutors, but generally from your experience, is lecture or tutor really hesitate or dislike to give students
help when they ask for?
if your would be uni tutor fits your description of avoiding questions and so forth, he/she should be fired immediately.

Well I've heard rumors...mind you, they are just rumors... that there are..

bars at uni. I kid you not! I really hope the rumors are true.
there are bars at uni.
none at high school, why not uni?

who cares if there are bars...

It's just beer.

:pirate:
beer by yourself?????

They don't treat you like a baby anymore.
But many people still think they're one when they first go to university.

For whatever freedom and rights you've been deprived of in high school, you'll get it in university.

As for bars, the only people I ever see at the roundhouse bar during the day are tradies and arts students.

The only thing that is the same, is learning, and even that doesn't always happen. There is no one to tell you what to do, you can kiss, smoke, watch porn (i've seen that before even) and no one cares (cept for maybe the last one - always lame people out there, or people who get offended) and do most anything, especially DRINK!!!!!!!

So, this is probably one of the dumbest question i've seen in a while. Uni is not like school at all. End of story

Apart from differing days and hours, what would you say are the other differences between uni and school? Do we still get homework, have to make notes on the topics, and do you get hand-in assessments?
Uni is very different from school on so many different levels.
If you come a small cosy high school like me, expect the unexpected.
Uni is MASSIVE. there is like 50 000 students who go there, so you're not likely to see the same people everyday, and don't have loving "oh he's from my school" feeling when you see people. When you first start and you don't know anyone, many people find uni an extremely lonely experience.
(this is what clubs and socs are for)

Class sizes are MASSIVE. my first year maths class had 1000 people enrolled in it. CRAZY stuff!

There are different learning styles. so you might have lectures, tutorials, labs, workshops, discussion groups etc etc

Assessment is also different - you might get a normal exam, you might get a take-home exam, computer online exams, group assessments, oral, written and so on.
I had an entire maths paper is multiple choice! which meant if you make a silly mistake? no consolation :(

You also have to look after yourself, no one will remind you to do your work. so if you're not on top of it.....well find a good friend who will remind you.
No one marks the roll, no one cares if you're there or not.
no one cares if you don't hand in stuff, no one cares if you're slipping in your studies....you just fail :(
so it's a good idea to get to know all the support systems are uni, like the various student services.

um... that's all i can think of at the moment

no one gives a fuck about your UAI.
No one holds your hand the whole way.
your attendance is your business.
it costs you money when you fail.
