We should have religion control & restrictions before we ever consider a dog control/restriction.
Hmm... not sure that's such a good idea.

Though, maybe you're all forgetting something. We already have 'dog' restrictions for certain breeds of dogs; perhaps the list of breeds restricted needs to be extended.

However not all dogs are vicious and responsible owners should not be penalised for the action or inaction of a few.

i saw the dogs in question on the news last night

theyre not dogs. theyre fucking insanely huge beasts

i know a pair of retards with pig dog x some shit x some shit. the dogs weigh at least 50kg each, stand as high as my waist and are just nuts. apart from a select few (like me), they attack most people and they even eye ball their owners. id mow those cunts down so quick, i dont trust mutts like that. especially when theyve been bred to hunt but theyve never hunted shit in their life

whats wrong with rotties though? if you start on rotties, you may as well get rid of dobermans and german shepards.

no, i think it's morons that need to be legislated against. they all need to go take dog handling courses or some shit idk

also, wtf were those dogs doing in the house?

Babysitter tells how she tried to save children from dog attack in Whitton | NSW/ACT | News.com.au

Okay, I found the issue.

The four pet dogs spent most of the time inside the home and were doted-on like children.
You can't treat fucking mixed breed bull mastiffs like children, for the love of God. They are dogs bred for hunting. I know exactly what happened - these morons pamper and pander to these mutts, and the second those kids walked inside the focus was off the dogs and the dogs got jealous.

Who the fuck lets a mixed breed bull mastiff in the house with TODDLERS anyway? This bitch needs to be charged with reckless endangerment or manslaughter, idk

I've got to say, most of the problem with dogs is not the dogs themselves - it's their owners. As many people get bitten by Maltese Terriers as they do by bigger dogs: it's just less heard of.

Any breed of dog if handled the wrong way can become dangerous. "Dangerous" breeds like mastiffs, pitt bulls, whatever, are different to your everyday mutt that chases its own tail in your backyard. They're bred to hunt, trained as guard dogs, etc. Basically not set up to be fuzzy family pets. Too many people get these dogs for whatever reason and think that if they treat them like the dopey friendly mutts most people have everything will be OK. But basically, if you buy a dog that's meant to hunt and guard and kill things you'll end up with a dog that wants to hunt and guard and kill things, not a loveable pooch to pat in the backyard.

Either use the dog for it's intended purpose or get a different dog, don't get monster animals like the ones in that story and cry when someone gets attacked. If the woman wanted pets to dote on she should have gotten a bloody poodle or something.

I mean ok all dogs have that hunting instinct at some level but you don't go and get a dog that is intensely inclined that way when you've got young kids around.

It's more likely that bigger dogs (pig dogs, mixed breed etc) are more likely to result in hospitalization, and hospitalization is where these government bodies get their statistics from. So I'm sure there is a high proportion of small dog bites that go unnoticed, and if big dogs could bite without ripping skulls off, they'd go unnoticed.

The problem is both humans and dogs. Mixed breeds and the likes have an inherent desire/instinct to kill, and often the victims are children because they're at the right height to be intimidating.

Secondly, fuckwits get these dogs and breed them without ever letting them hunt/kill instinctively. This is the second problem - when you have idiots who raise dogs they don't fully understand, people get hurt.

That said, there are definitely breeds of dogs that I don't believe should exist (mixed, not pure), and I think anybody who becomes complacent towards them is a nong.

Um. All dogs were bred for a purpose, and most were bred for hunting/herding/guarding of some description. Funnily enough, Rottweilers had a history of herding and pulling carts, rather than guarding. Terriers? Bred to herd, nipping ankles, or going into small holes and attacking things like foxes and badgers. I can't think of a single dog breed designed specifically to be a pet (though I'm sure they exist).

This is applicable for all dog breeds - all dogs are meant to hunt and kill things. The problem comes when owners abuse their pets, or don't train them properly - and that doesn't mean 'obedience' training, by the way. It means being an alpha and treating your dog like a dog.

Either use the dog for it's intended purpose or get a different dog, don't get monster animals like the ones in that story and cry when someone gets attacked.
I don't think there is any such thing as a monster dog. All breeds have their flaws, but there is NO reason why one of those "monsters" couldn't be a proper "family" dog if properly trained and handled in the first place.

YouTube - The ORIGINAL "Pit Bull Problem" Video
Yeah I know there aren't any real "pet" dogs so to speak, more that there seem to be some breeds that are more inclined to be aggressive I suppose. You're definitely right about the training. I just wonder sometimes if certain breeds need more than they get. Is there a difference between the amount of discipline you give to a "normal" dog (i.e. one thats not a so called dangerous breed) and a 'dangerous' dog? Idk. We never really got strict with either of our dogs and they're pretty obedient and friendly without much effort but I would exercise a lot more discipline with a dangerous breed.

It comes down to the owners in the end. I definitely agree with the video that it's learnt behaviour; the problem is once a dog has learned that behaviour, what do we do about it?

Plus i don't know how accurate this is, just an observation but a lot of the people with dogs like pit bulls and so on are not the nicest people and seem to want their dog to learn vicious behaviour or don't believe that it should be trained up the same way as any other breed or whatever the reason is they end up creating dangerous dogs and it seems to be expected that this will happen. I've never met a pit bull owner that treated the dog like I'd treat mine, they've always been chained up in a yard or caged or muzzled or pretty much restrained like they were going to snap at any second, I don't know why that is but it seems to be part of the problem judging from that vid anyway

You have a point there. A lot of dog breeds are inherently more "independent" of their owners because of what their jobs were - many shepherd dogs, sled dogs, etc. Those dogs require far more rigorous training (or rather, the owner asserting their position as alpha) than, would, my dog, for instance. I have a whippet, biggest sook in the world - but I also used to have a Rottweiler, and she was also the biggest sook. I don't know.

It comes down to the owners in the end. I definitely agree with the video that it's learnt behaviour; the problem is once a dog has learned that behaviour, what do we do about it?
Sometimes it can't be unlearned. Humanely destroy the dog and punish the owner.

Well, a lot of people by dogs based on their supposed viciousness because they want a vicious dog. It's a horrible cycle.

There should probably be a free training course or something if there isn't one available already for people to learn how to treat their dogs according to breed. Or at least on how to properly assert yourself as the alpha regardless. I think problems can start when people don't understand the difference between kindness and indulgence. If you let a dog have its own way for ages and then suddenly decide to train it you're in for problems which is possibly what happens with a lot of the harder-to-train breeds, people can't be bothered and then when it gets to be a problem they try to do something about it and the dog goes nuts because its not used to being submissive.

For example as a rule my dogs are not allowed inside the house, ever, and they know that and it makes their 'place' in the hierarchy clear. However in terrible weather/if there was a real danger close by, I would let them inside because it would be cruel not to. But if I let them inside all the time, let them do whatever they wanted, etc, like some people do eventually they're going to start seeing themselves as the dominant ones and then who knows what'd happen when I decided it had to stop.

This will sound authoritarian, but half the problem is irresponsible breeders. Temperament can be controlled, and most professional (i.e. show) breeders do this, and are also very picky about who buys their puppies.

Backyard breeders, who supply most if not all of "dangerous" dog stock, do not.
