ello, I'm a first year in the B international studies program as of feb 23rd, im going into the European languages stream, doing it beginners.
What I wanted to ask was, I completed hsc level beginners japanese, and I got a mark of 87 in it, apparently i satisfy the requirements for entry into JPN221. For anyone who knows anything about this unit, can I still take it as an elective even if im not into the asian languages stream?, for anyone wanting to give me some random adivce, do you reckon it's wise to do two languages at once. For anyone who's taken this unit, how intensive is it?... would someone with adequate beginners knowledge be able to cope well in it?.. how is it assessed?.. is it very demanding?... because its 200 level, will it be more challenging than all my other subjects since theyre all 100 level. If i take this unit and decide its too hard after a couple of weeks, can I withdraw from it and enrol in another unit? Im pretty keen on taking this japanese unit because I dont want my hsc japanese to go to waste and also I read that once u reach the japanese language III, you qualify for JLP level 3 or something....

With the semester overseas, is it compulsory if you want to graduate?, can it only happen with a partner university, can you do it third year instead of second? can you anticipate to be fluent in your language by the end of the exchange? and lastly, where abouts would you have your internship in 3rd year, organisation wise? is it full time?

and can you sweet talk someone into making a place for you in a full tutorial... ?

Some people can some cant - depends on how studious you are. Most languages are assessed throughout the semester with small assignments/quizes as well as a large exam at the end (worth 50-60% and needing to pass to pass the semester)

If i take this unit and decide its too hard after a couple of weeks, can I withdraw from it and enrol in another unit?
yes you can withdraw before the 31st of March I think it is (whenever census date is)

The semester abroad with the INTS degree is compolsury, and its best to do it at a partner uni - much less hassel and also you get the grants for it whereas im not sure if you do if you go to a non partner uni.

Internship is at lots of different places (last year it ranged from SBS to Macquarie International Office to Amnesty International to a Chinese Newspaper and so on) I think we only need to do something like 38 hours over the semester (so you can choose to do it when suits you and the company you go to)

just rock up to the tute you wanted to go to and say that its the only one you can do but couldnt enrol because its full - or talk to the lecturer in the first lecture - they usually dont care - which subject is it?
