Arrived at the lecture at around 2:00, already full and with 100 students sitting outside listening to the lecture via a pair of ridiculously small tv.

Would be forgiving if the information was actually useful, but i spent an hour listening to them ramble on about a select few points that i already knew.

I have the ENGG1000 lecture notes. I also know about the impromptu design. Although i know that the design is a worthwhile experience in itself, is the information presented in the general lectures a waste of time?

yep, first lecture was a waste of time, especially for those who have signed up for a specific project already.

the only thing i wanted to know was some information about this impromptu design thing we have on thursday, which they barely talked about.

so do any 2nd years have some info on it? what will we be doing and such?

last year we had to be able to make a plastic cup fall to the ground from a height of about 3m without spilling any water. We were given plastic bags, balloons, sticky tape, sponges, other random shit, had about 1hr to talk to ur randomly assigned group and create it, then u test it in front of everyone.
I was named group captain and ours didnt spill at all :)

then next lecture u gotta write up some mini report back in clancy, answer some questions and stuff.

Best part of the lecture was the plane throwing. I already picked what I wanted and that was really a boring lecture. The petroleum guy, the biomedical guy and the mining guy made me want to sleep. Most entertaining went to mechanical guy haha.

During those dusty primary school and early high school days I often visited UNSW now and then during the holidays.
How different things were 10 years ago.
Except the Electrical Engineering building, I always like to run up and down the stairs and gaze down at the bottom floor from a high floor.

how'd you guys go for the impromptu design today?

my group was ok, about half got into the project and kept suggesting ideas and fiddled around with the materials while the other half were a bit more detached. one guy just sat there for the whole hour, just chewed gum and didnt say anything.

our design wasnt that great. while we were waiting to test our project, 3/4 balloons popped so all we had was a cup with sponges attached to its base.

yea, it was kinda really crappy but somehow it retained 20 mL lol

so any of you guys in a sucessful group?

44ml left which was good considering our original had 4 balloons and we popped all of 'em.

my group was pretty good, all helpful and interactive despite being 6 girls and 3 guys lol

it's weird cause normally i'm really timid and shy and don't say much but i find at uni it's alot easier to just talk and be like social.

6 girls and 3 guys, unlucky mate.

thankfully i didn't have any bitches in my groupo cept this one guy who took the project abit too seriously.
