If anyone could give me feedback on this intro, and what should or shouldn't be in there.

“Age, Race/Ethnicity and Gender are the three key determinants of language use.” Discuss in relation to Australian English language and society.

This is my intro:

It is true that these three human characteristics, Age, Race/Ethnicity and Gender, in general, are the three key determinants of language use. Age is a determinant of language use because it determines the lexical choices we will make and it can determine the use of HRT (High Rising Terminal), which refers to a feature of some accents of English where statements have a rising intonation pattern in the final syllable or syllables of the utterance. Race/ Ethnicity are determinants of language use because each variety of a language has a slightly different lexicon. It is also a key determinant in identifying their belonging to a particular ethnic group. Gender is also a key determinate because gender determines what words you will use. Also another reason is the accent you use is determined by gender with a vast majority of females speaking cultivated Australian compared to males. But first, in order to fully comprehend the significance of these three key determinants of language use we must have a grasp of the history of Australian English.

I'm not all that good with intro's so any help would be appreciated.

Don't you need to base your essay on some texts that you will use to back up your thesis?

If so, cut out some of the BS and instead introduce your thesis and state that the thesis is evident in the texts you are doing.

We don't do any texts. This is solely on the linguistics of Australian English.
