in the answers in my textbook one of the answers has a symbol the is and equals sign with a dot about and below it in the center.

do you know what it is?

That means equals + 1. So you take the value of the answer that you get and the add 1.

EXAMPLE

4+5[equal with dots] = 9+1

=10

no no no! that is the sign with 3 lines ( looks like the conguent triangle sign )
