FORMER Prime Minister John Howard has presumably resurrected his political career, returning as the nation's leader in a new episode of South Park.

In an episode of the cartoon, broadcast in the US last week, Mr Howard features as Australia's Prime Minister giving advice to one of the show’s characters from an office in Canberra.

Mr Howard was one of many world leaders depicted in the episode - with internet users left scratching their heads as to why current Prime Minister Kevin Rudd was not representing Australia.

But a news.com.au reader wrote that Mr Howard’s "appearance" was quite funny.

"Obviously the writers/animators of South Park failed to realise that Mr Howard has been out of office since late 2007," the reader said in an email.

"Nevertheless his portrayal is still funny, complete with thick Australian accent and bald head."

Internet forums and other sites such as Digg.com featured comments speculating about the possibility Mr Rudd would take offence to the snub.

Too bad Kevin Rudd is unknown outside of Australia.. compared to the big impact John Howard made when he was PM.

Thats probably not a good thing, they also choose Putin as Russias president over Medvedev. The leaders chosen for the southpark episode tell heaps of lies, which explains why they choose howard.

How do I know? I saw the episode a few hours after it was released.
