Sorry to bther you guys but I wanna get all my homework done. I got a question on division of a line in a given ratio. I know how to get the co-ordinates of a point but I can't get the ratio.

Given the poits A(-1,1) B(3,5), C(6,8) lie in one line find in what ratio
a) B divides AC
b) C divides AB
c) A divides BC

Can someone maybe explain just one of the questions so I can understand what to do.

maybe it doesn't work then, just use distance formula maybe

if 2l=3k

l = 3/2, k = 1

ratio 3/2 : 1

3: 2

edit: remember that l and k are ratios, not specific values. But we typically want them in integer form.

I think the easiest way to do this is find asymptotes and then use limits.

Yeah, but it seems weird because apparently the graph's lines cut the asymptotes and their not supposed to do that.

yes as tim.siu said u CAN cut asymptotes, however ONLY horizontal ones

to find whether it cuts or not use the sign of the graph
ie: the sign at either extremity of that region of the graph

Thanks guys. I thought that graphs can only cut asymptotes in 4 unit.
