Ext 2 isn't that hard. I've been self teaching a bit, but then, I decided to look at a US calc textbook. Wow. Their Calc 3 class is like...6 unit math? Idk...They're pretty hardcore. Anyway, go for it, Ext 2 was made to be doable.

Yeah...I'd like a greater emphesis on calc in the syllabus...Maybe even multivariable calc (double integration etc) and some higher up level stuff like flux, curl, divergance...etc.

That is pretty similar to my school ^_^. In my half yearly for MX1 I got 43% rofl... xD but I dare say it was my best effort considering that I had only 4 months to learn and prepare the entire preliminary course for 2u and ext. 1 + half of the HSC course as well.

I still got second xD... I don't know how my marks fair up now though. I'm sure they've improved.
Hehe, then you're doing fine. It's all about internal rankings, not the marks after all :)

Gah i should get off and doing my mxt2 homework :'(

If you're not sure then try and just drop it later ^^

This is what i think, its not like MX2 is like 20 times more difficult than MX1. It just requires a little more thought. :D

Now where talk'n. Maybe even a MX3 that has most of that stuff. Some graph theory and a little group theory couldn't hurt could it?

I herd that in the Netherlands at the equivalent year 9/10 level they do integration!

Also i was working through this typical Chinese high school exam with a chinese student at our school. The exam is given to the equivelent of year 10 students. The first question was "what is the minimum value of ! Compare this to the first school certificate maths question "8.49 + 2.1 = "

i think thats a good thing about the calculators. Most students use calculators as crutches and this continues on throughout their life. Its making our country dumber.

I don't consider it nerdy; its one of the reasons so many asians excel at mathematics - there is a strong empahasis on succes in maths in asian countries. And yes; the number of people who depend on calculators to do simple maths is shocking.

Yeh, just looking at the results of the International Mathematics Olympiad (which is the worlds greatest mathematics competition), the Chinese always come first, as well as every student getting gold. The most gold Australia got in one year is 2 (or 3?)!

i wanna do 4u maths as well. im currently doing 3u.

my marks are avg 85% atm. but i know i'm going to improve as i do pretty crap at the beginning n keep improving throughout the year.
i have 3 sciences as well and i dont really want to drop any.

i mean.. if you ask your maths teacher what you should do, theyre bound to say try it out first then see if you like it.
they have a point but with extension 2 maths it gets a bit hard since most schools dont make you do go to 2u classes n 3u classes as well as 4u classes. if you decide to drop ext 2 later on, you dont have assesment marks for 2u. this is what i've been told from a friend but im not quite sure if its correct or not.
From my states education system (VCE) you do the hardest maths if you want to go into engineering, physics, maths, acturial studies or medicine (purely to boost you UAI, ATAR, ENTER, etc). In uni the maths involved for the first 4 is pretty much starting at assumed knowledge at fairly high maths. My system may be different but specialist maths or our hardest maths taught stuff such as vectors, differential equations, complex numbers, advanced calculus, further trigonometry, etc which is employed in first year uni maths, physics, engineering and I'd say actuarial would (not a commerce student so I can't justify that but I'm saying it would). But really these are the reasons you do the advanced maths if your passionate about it or what you want to pursue needs a higher understanding of the maths involved.

Since when has Australia been good at anything except doing nothing?
