if you've been a lazy shit with your notes [though you are attentive in class ETA: and hence you have a sound though basic knowledge of the topic] and given the time until trials, would going through past papers and doing practice essays open-book+syllabus be helpful? this is mainly in relation to humanities subjects [the subjects in question being SOR and legal].

honestly i would say that its a really good idea to go through past papers because even with school based exams, ive found prac q's to be realy helpful... BUT, you have to know the content. perhaps not making notes, but reviewing areas you are less-than-familiar with.

Usually for humanities, I believe that essay-plans and essays are the best way to go. After all, the exams that are created to test you are usually filled with them. However, like the above poster stated, you need to have some sort of grasp of the content first before you can attempt to do past papers.

when you are 4-ish months out from the hsc, it's not so easy to "just study" and write notes for at least 5 subjects and have to revise them and do prac q's. its more practical to find an alternative way.

Memorise the syllabus and practise past papers! I believe that's the best way to go =) Although if you don't already have a sound understanding of the content in the subject you're doing, maybe download some notes off the resource pages from BOS. Although this technique might only work for the humanities subjects and not the science ones.

for hsc i just read throgh my notes 2-3 times then past papers all the way through.

for mx2, I probably did 10% note reading and 90% past papers..

for me personally, I found that getting used to the questions
and recognising how to solve each question was probably
the single biggest factor in determining my mark

although, you can't attempt to do past papers if you do not
already understand the theory !

Funny, I got a similar situation in legal atm...I've done notes for about 2 and 3/4 of topics, but I need to finish family law notes, and get stuck into environmental law notes these hollies. However, with family we had an assessment and I got top, despite not finishing notes...If you have a reasonable knowledge for legal, just memorise laws, case studies press releases etc. and practice essays...If you look at the syllabus for the optional topics, the first half is setting the scene, the second half is for what you need to discuss in essays. Worked for me
