Howdy engineers , this newbie is in dire need of some advice.

I am a new student midyear raider for engineering/science degrees, am over the moon excited but some things are troubling me deeply.

First off, I am coming up from Melbourne and I have not yet settled into a college or any accommodation, this plus I have to arrange a specialist doctor up there because I need special medication and checks almost daily. Obviously this involves TIME which means I am STILL in this disgusting, Siberian tundra called Melbourne. :rudolf:

Hopefully I can fly to Sydney by Tuesday or Wednesday, but I am fearing that if I don't, I will miss the first laboratories and tutorials for some of my classes (labs/tutes in intro physics, math, geology, and a petroleum one), and thereby miss lots of marks and knowledge because of this, and that it would be hard to get up to speed with the material, losing even more marks!

I think I read somewhere here that tutorials and lab pracs don't start until Week 2 and that there are only lectures in the first week (this would be a MUCH better situation as I could catch up to the material by looking at notes and recordings, and not loose any marks), is this true  OR are tutes/labs running this week 20 to 27th starting this Monday and I may miss out on marksfor all of my subjects and get 0 for my first practicals?

Am I doomed academically for missing this week or would it have little to
no impact on my overall marks
? I mean, the census date isn't for a while
and so surely some people change after this week to different subjects and
therefore little/no assessment or lab marks are done in this time as a result
?
This was the case for my first degree at Melbourne Uni.

WILL I LOSE MARKS IF I ROCK UP TO CLASSES NOT THIS WEEK
BUT THE WEEK AFTER???

Many thanks to you all, and hope to see and meet some of you in the coming months, my name is Karl, I will be extremely lonely, a bit older, and really shy but looking forward to meeting new friends, especially with the same interests (like geology and chemistry or even literature/philosophy) so come say hi!

:headbang:

you should be sweet, first week is only lectures which introductory - a few actually get into the content so you can spend the week doing homework for the first tutorial in week 2.

shouldn't be too hard to catch up.

Awesome, thanks for the help. Just have one more question: is it the norm for lectures to be posted up on the subject pages?

- Cheers.

notes depends on lecturer, as well as recordings (which is usually only audio anyways)

Have also run into a problem with subject selection. Im really keen to do the petroleum geology course GEOS3321, and managed to get into a laboratory class... but I can't fully enrol in the subject because the stupid lecture is full, gggrrrrr.... does this really matter? Do I have to find some other course to do then??

yes, they normally don't let you enrol unless you have enrolled in a lecture.

see the school if they can give you an exemption
