Hey,

I just had an interview with a real estate agent about a casual receptionist job. The interview went really well so I'm hoping they'll employ me. I've never had a job before so I don't know much about things like pay and how the whole salary thing works.

Firstly, I'll be working about 9 hours a week from 5pm - 8pm three days a week, and I'm 17. What would you estimate as my pay rate? I'd be happy with about $10 an hour, is that a realistic amount?

Also, if they do decide to employ me, is it my taxfile number I have to give them and when? Will they ask when they want it?

Any extra tips and advice is great too =)

Thank you.

Hey you! First off congratulations on the interview and good luck with getting the job! =]

$10 an hour sounds very reasonable, and especially as it's casual work i wouldn't expect anything less. My friend has been doing secretary/receptionist work for a year and a half and gets around $27 an hour [full time], and she's 17. So $10 an hour even if you're unexperienced sounds great.

They will need your tax file number before you start working preferably, along with bank account details and a passport etc.

Good work. I don't see many people without any previous work experience getting a receptionist job.

How did you apply?

Thanks =). Well they had a sign saying they wanted a casual high school student so I dropped in a resume with my details, achievments/awards, skills and added down the bottom that I had two references, one written from my 2 weeks work experience at a pet store and one contactable which was the deputy principal from school. all i said was "i also have two references, one written and one contactable" or something like that.

My friend gets $100 for work at a real estate agent as a receptionist. She's 19 but its not an hourly rate she gets $100 for the day and just leaves when they say it's ok. It's normally around 6 hours.
