The one about the Cl2 gas and the CO was pretty hard :\ i talked about how produts were being removed. Pressure, temp shifting equilibrium.

and how it starts off a a state of equilibrium and is disturbed then shifts bla bla it was all over the place..... im hoping for 4/6..


Other questions were easy tho hoping for a 92% raw :D

I said pretty much the same things.
Also when the curve was plateauing I said that it had reached equilibrium again before once again changes were made to encourage forward reaction.
I'd be happy with a 4/6 for that one.
Lets hope we're right.

Increased temperature = increased rate of reaction (therefore reaches equilibrium quicker)

Or, a cataylst was added.

Um. I don't think so.

There was an initial drop in the concentration of all reactants/products so it couldn't have been a catalyst/temperature.

i put:

1st change = temp increase
2nd change = CO concentration decreased manually.
3rd change = pressure reduced

no, there was a steep drop, so it means the system had its volume increased / pressure decreased

I mean the very last bit after the drop. The curvature was very quick, so thats why I made the assumption.

I got the 1st change right... 2nd should've been CO concentration reduced (but i didn't put that grr). 3rd change i didn't know so i just said gas of entire system was allowed to escape XD

From what you guys said above, i have a hope of getting 4/6. Hurrah!

i dont think thats a valid answer.
theres nothing to say that the "gas of the entire system was allowed to escape". instead, the pressure was simply reduced by a third.

I don't think pressure was reduced in the last one. If it was, then what all concentrations would've reduced by equal amounts.

Also quick check- who here wrote something about the plateau-ing being equilibrium?

Im pretty sure the first change was DECREASE in temperature, because the production of COCl2 NEEDED energy, taken from the environment around it, thus energy is released back into the surroundings the opposite way, creation on CO and Cl2. Thats the way i saw it anyways.

hmm i thought it was all relative. the concentration for all of them was reduced by a third.

btw, i didnt explicitly mention the plateau being equilibrium, but i mentioned that the increase in temperature disturbed the existing equilibrium.

Yeah i agree, wouldnt a decrease in pressure result in all substances being reduced by an EQUAL amount? because all gases are 24.79L in STP and each gas CO, Cl2 and COCl2 were all the same amount of moles (1:1:1 ratio) .'. they would all decrease the same amount, what the question was saying was that each was different, hence they it cant be reduction in pressure.

Hmm. Yer I had

1) Constant concentration of reactants/products = system in equilibrium
2) Temperature increase
3) Removal of CO
4) Pressure decrease, followed by the reactant/product concentrations plateauing into equillibrium.

so for the last part where they all dropped is it valid to say that an amount of gases was removed from the system
