AN 82-year-old woman viciously bashed and raped in her own backyard in Rockhampton on Australia Day has died in Brisbane.
Police have confirmed the woman lost her fight for life this morning in the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, The Courier-Mail reports.
An 18-year-old man arrested over the crime could now face upgraded charges as a result of her death.
He appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court last Thursday charged with attempted murder, two counts of rape, grievous bodily harm, enter dwelling with intent and stealing.
It is alleged he used a fire extinguisher in the attack, which came as the great-grandmother was raking leaves.

Naiivity is humorous. Not ALL teens would or do do this kind of thing. Public fear breeds harmful assumptions. This is why in this area, teens are practically confined to their homes for lack of anything to do... The council is unjustly afraid, and if they'd get it through their thick heads that having nothing to do all the time breeds this kind of behaviour, and constantly being against youth may actually provoke attacks... The world would be better.
