Basic question, just want to be sure..can you do two majors and a minor in an Arts degree? (Cos the number of credit pts works out but just wonderin if MQ allows students to do this..)
Also, how come I can't find some units in the Handbook? e.g MAS115 and MCS115 (and where could I find info on these units?)
One more question.. How come there is no info on B Arts in Media in the Handbook or on MQ's website? (It's a new course..the new name for B Media I think..)
Thanks to anyone who can help:)

Ask an academic advisor about the 2 majors but from the website:

A major is a main area of study and, if your program requires the completion of a major, it will be shown on your testamur. A student who graduates in the current BA receives a testamur showing that they have a Bachelor of Arts, but it does not include the coherent study or specialisation. The testamur for the new Bachelor of Arts will, however, show both the degree and your major – e.g. Bachelor of Arts major in Philosophy In some degrees, where it may be possible to complete two majors, both will be shown on your testamur.

A major consists of a minimum of 24 distinct credit points, including a minimum of 12 distinct credit points at 300-level in an approved combination of units, which will include a Capstone unit. These units will usually but not always have the same prefix. Lists of approved units for majors in different areas are available on-line in the 2010 Handbook.

As for MAS115 and MCS115 what were they called? It might not be running if its not on the handbook site.

B Arts Media guide is here: 2010 Handbook - 2010 Course Handbook - Macquarie University

Thanks for your help:)
I've no idea what those units are called (MAS115 and MCS115), but apparently they are prerequisites for MAS210 Travel Writing: Journeys and Visitations..so i flicked through the Handbook trying to find MAS115 and MCS115 but with no luck..yeh it could be that those units aren't running this year and they didn't update it before the handbook was printed.. :/
I've just been confused about the difference between a 'BA in Media' (ATAR 84.25) and just doing a BA (ATAR 78) with a Media major.. I mean they sound exactly the same!! Maybe I'm mistaken and they're just the same thing lol..
Anyway will tlk to academic advisor when i get the chance..thanks AsyLum

You had to be enrolled in a B Media previously to do certain units, namely production iirc, but they're pretty open about it now, so *shrug*. You could basically do the first few cores for a B Media, then transfer into it and not lose a year in a straight BA, I suspect you could do the same now

According to the handbook to do MAS210 Travel Writing: Journeys and Visitations: the prerequisite is MMCS115 (Academic Cultures) or engl120. You just need to choose one of those to fulfil the prerequisite OR just be admitted into a BA - media.

ENGL120 - Approaches to English Literature or page 367
MMCS115 - Academic Cultures or page 434 of the printed handbook

You're probably right about what happened to mas115 and mcs115.

Yes i was wondering exactly the same thing because when i applied through UAC i did not get into the "BA in Media" so i just decided to do a regular BA and major in media and writing. However i thought that doing the actual BA in Media would be a better, more focused course considering it had a higher atar... So when i talked to the academic advisor at enrolment i told her i was considering transferring into the BA in media. But she told me that the BA in media course and doing a bachelor of arts majoring in media is the same thing! She said there was "no differenece" which confused me because why have a BA in media course listed on UAC if anyone can do the bachelor of arts and just pick the media major and it is somehow the same course?

I understand there is no longer a B in media, but there is still a seperate BA in media listed with UAC, so what is the difference from this to normal BA with the media major?

I think it was probably a transition thing, so people didn't get confused and go "where's the B Media?!" I think from now on, it'll just be a B Arts.

I was also considering the transfer and asked the academic advisor those questions (we may have talked to the same person)...at first, she told me there was probably 'no difference' between the two, but when I inquired as to whether I could take Travel Writing without technically being admitted into 'BA in Media' (the prereq), she mused that they were probably different courses after-all...she went on to say that the whole curriculum has been reformed, and at this stage, 'no-one really knows much about it'. So will just have to wait for clarity I guess..
Thanks to everyone for the input..AsyLum..Topazkick..audioxdoll..:)

I know i dont really have to worry about it right now because i wont be able to pick it for a while but i reeeaalllyyyy want to do it as im pretty sure my degree wont mean sh*t to employers unless ive done a couple of internships :spin:

You don't need a degree to do an internship, depending on which field you want to do, you ideally want to get internships in 2nd year not 3rd anyway.

And you gotta remember there are something like 30+ majors in Arts, sometimes you may or may not get an academic that knows about the area, if you want to talk to someone talk to either Sherman Young or Steve Collins, they're two clued in ones.
