Going by your HSC marks (and tutoring testimonials), you seem to be quite a smart guy, so you may have found your 1st year maths courses easy without attending lectures or tutes, but this does NOT apply for everyone doing engineering (also, not everyone has done 4U maths in school, which is a huge advantage in 1st year uni maths).

My point being that Maths lectures and tutes ARE recommended, unless you really do find them incredibly easy. Using myself as a case study, looking at my results and attendance patterns of the 6 Maths units I've completed:

1002, 1005, 2061 - D's - attended most lectures
1001 - high C - attended about half the lectures
2065 - low C - attended just under half the lectures
1003 - high P - attended 2 lectures

So unless you are supremely confident with the material, attend the lectures and tutes where possible. You will notice the difference come exam time.

I agree completely with most of your points.

However regarding lectures for maths, I found that they are just a merely regurgitation of math notes (sometimes word for word)! I would highly recommended attending the math tutes, I am just pointing out that they are not compulsory to attend : )
