Clockwork Army
I know that this is not the best place to post this, but I've posted it on a car club forum and am having someone look at it soon. Just want your ideas.
I have an '88 EA Falcon S-pack with the Borg-Warner Hydraulic Three-speed Automatic Gearbox installed.
As of late, the gearbox has been slipping on the change UP from 1st to 2nd. It's almost like the car goes into neutral (I know this isn't technically possible) which leads me to believe that the clutches or some other part in the planetary gear system is disengaging or just not responding as it should.
I'm interested in hearing what the possible causes of this sudden loss of gear is.
Explanation of occurrence:
I'll be taking off (usually happens when taking a corner from standstill or the first change of the day) and the car will try to change from 1st to 2nd, where it loses the gear, goes into 'neutral' and the engine spins freely. After 2 - 5 seconds, 2nd gear engages and the car takes off again, if there are any revs left over or being produced, the gear engages so suddenly that the car jolts forward with a loud THUD and the tyres squeal... As expected.
When the gear is disengaged in the change, if the engine is revved above a certain level, the car vibrates oddly (I suppose it's the teeth in the gearbox trying to grab?). I found this out by accident on a hill .
So yeah, opinions would be good.
(I know, it's an EA Falcon, who cares about such a car? - I can't afford another one, and I can't really afford repairs so comments like "just trash it and get a new one" do not help.)
TL;DR? Sorry.
