if you like sparkling, you like looking pretty, [insert long chain of argument], thus you are gay.

yeah but parents don't talk about it anymore due to their embarrassment and the awkward fallout. parents usually leave it to teachers nowadays.
You know what'd be good for those parents?
Manning up.

I fail to fathom what's so embarassing about talking about sex.
Calling a penis a 'penis' and a vagina a 'vagina' isn't that hard. (hehe, hard ;) )

Back on topic, just for the sake of discussion... maybe the idea of telling young kids about sex from an early age will affect their relationships with their peers. They might start thinking about people their age of the opposite sex in a sexual context, leading to disintegration of the jollyness and innocence of kids running around pushing each other into the mud. I have no evidence to back it up at all, but just thinking about both sides of the argument.
No you don't have any evidence and your moronic comment is easily refuted by existing evidence.

Sexual desires occur due to hormonal changes in humans when they reach puberty.

They cannot be aroused in pre-pubescent children simply by teaching them what sex is.

Quite clearly, in the book and movie, the whole sparkling aspect is put across as a bad thing.

So... no. They don't like sparkling. Therefore: no homo.

SHE likes the sparkling. So she likes homo. He loathes his homosexual tendencies. She looks a bit like a man, which is why he is attracted to her.

I actually have a question - is there any scientific evidence that puberty is occurring earlier than in previous historical periods (mainly pre-Sexual revolution)?

Then that would mean that she's homo, if sparkling were to be gay.

I'm not sure why I'm still arguing this point.

dunno but puberty is not only physical but mental as well so if you talk about it and prepare them wouldn't they be interested the second they do hit puberty?

Probably only because of documentation and discussion on the topic. This thing wouldn't be discussed openly a few decades ago and would've probably have been seen as "perverted" to have documented it.

Nowadays there's plenty of documentation. More to suggest that people of a "young" age are entering puberty. I doubt that it wouldn't of happened before.
