With all the uni courses out there, I'd really love to hear what motivated you to narrow it down to one. It just seems so hard to just pick one course.

Was it due to your parents being in an associated career? Sounded good? Prestige? Good job prospects? Seemed to go in a good pattern to your senior secondary studies? You had the ATAR to do it?

Nothing to do with parents.
Sounded like I'd get a very analytical degree which would give me a lot of job oppurtunities in various fields.
Yeah good job prospects was the main reason I guess.
I liked maths and economics at school so I went into maths and economics.
I had the ATAR by a mile - didn't care about 'using' my ATAR on something 'better'.

My girlfriend says she went into Biomedical Sciences because she liked HBio.

I like my maths and my science. I'm not exactly the best at them, but I figure when the going gets tough - and it will in University - I'll finally be able to (hopefully) translate effort points into marks for the course.

B Sc (Adv Maths) is the degree, by the way.

I'm still not even sure I've chosen the right degree... I like science, not sure whether to take that onto research or go into medicine. I still am interested in business management and also law. Hopefully I can get into Medical ethics and also Administration.

I know there's plenty of work in the medical field.

Law/Science.

1. I've always been an excellent public speaker and looking for a verbal arguement about ANYTHING.
2. I've always had a natural curiousity and a knack for science (I could of done better in the HSC with more study :p). Probably get it from having one parent having majored in chem and bio and another who majored in physics and radiography XD

I want to be a neurosurgeon for several reasons

1. The death of a close friend from head injuries
2. A genuine interest in the brain
3. A motivation to link this interest to a career that can practically serve the community.
4. A shortage of neurosurgeons in recent years

When I left school I wasn't 100% sure what I wanted to do so I worked for a couple of years first in the industry. Now I know what i want to do (I hope) and so I looked at what universities offered what I wanted, and it was also important to me the uni was flexible in taking electives outside my degree so I could do some related things i enjoy but outwith my degree.

Many people I have met don't know what they want to do and took their courses based on the money promised or the prestige. If you are not sure, ask to shadow someone for a day or talk to others studying it. Last thing you want to do is be stuck in a job that you hate, no matter how much it pays.
