Should Australians over the age of sixteen be allowed voting rights?

i read what you wrote you tard

they wont understand or care about stamp duty, income tax or interest rates until they are faced with them

the argument is in a similar vein son. why let them be involved in dictating spending when they havent contributed

why be retarded
A 17 year old living in a middle class, whitebread family is a far cry from being middle aged, between jobs and surviving off welfare payments. To not get that you're a cock and or a dumb arse.

i didnt say they were the same lol

they have parallels though. if you are on welfare you are scarcely going to care what income tax is used for, are you (unless of course it is used for more baby bonuses)

neither demographic is going to know or care what the ramifications of legislation will be so why burden them with voting

They'll probably care about what effects their parents though.

aka them as they'll probably be thrust into a lower income bracket than their parents.

This presupposes that everyone votes according to narrow self interests.

idc, he made no sense.
then why did someone else understand what I meant

Not everyone votes for self interest. I voted ORP for the upper house in NSW state election who hate welfare and public anything, despite me having a whole lot of reliance on all of these things.

EDIT: not actually dependent on welfare but it supplements my drinking habit and phone bills

Keep it as it is..... kids under 18 should be concentrating on SCHOOL rather than BS politics. I agree with the poster who said that "younger = more gullible"

Why I say this? Because "more education = more informed decision-making" (Economics for the win!!!)

So be good children and bury ur heads into ur textbooks!

PS: It was from the year 11/12 economics course that I knew a certain prime minister was skewing public sentiment when HE said "let's lower interest rates to help hard-working Australian families be better off"

PSS: when I say "more education = more informed decision-making" I MEAN IT!!!!

:)

EDIT: Lemme introduce year 11/12 Economics to whoever is in year 9/10. Lemme summarise the whole subject in ONE word: MARKETS. Why I like it? Because I get to learn about the implications of government policy on markets and how people respond to changes in the market.

RE-EDIT: So whenever a government "pwomises" something, I ask myself two questions: TRUE OR FALSE? WHAT IS THE CHAIN-REACTION (a series of effects) RESULTING FROM THE CAUSE?

yeah but in the long term deregulation and minimisation of the state is good for your liberties and hip pocket so you still voted in yr own self interest.

it's almost like they do
If everyone voted according to how it would actually impact them asylum seekers would be a political issue for about half a percent of voters.

Why would the 5% who come by boats be more scary than majority coming by planes but for some bonkers nationalistic sentiment about deciding who comes in.
