So at the beginning of year 11 I had very high expectations for physics (as I do love maths) - it was going to be fun, inspiring and I would excel in the subject. On the other hand, Economics was going to be dull and boring, as it was my 'filler' subject to drop in year 12.

I have soon realised that the physics department at my school is really not up to scratch. Physics has been boring and I have not been getting good marks - almost failing. I am really disappointed! Now, in economics, I'm coming eq2nd, but I still don't enjoy it as much as I would have hoped to...

What should I do?! I think if I do physics I will need to learn it myself or get a tutor...but with economics our school doesn't do so well, either...

Any ideas? Thanks :haha:

if your keen to drop, drop something you hate.

You won't do well in subjects you hate

Well depends on you as an Individual, Both subjects get more interesting in year 12 (IMO anyway) so maybe look over the content of both during your holidays and decide from there?

Also if the physics department isn't up to scratch, dont do it, it wont help you in the long run, especially if you're almost failing. Economics would be the better bet in terms of ATAR.

What iRuler said.

Also, can you stand studying for come October 2012? You still have a term to decide, see how your yearlies go.

+1
Atar-wise, what he said
Career-wise , you DON'T need HSC physics to study physics at higher level. 4u maths >> HSC physics

If the physics dept is not good like you say, do the economics. You may not like it as much but you could do better in it with less work that physics (physics sounds like you'd have to teach yourself the whole course!). It'll be less stressful doing eco if you're doing better in it now w/ your attitude of it being a filler subject.

ATAR wise, they scale the same anyway so look at other factors
e.g. which do you enjoy more / are better at? which has the better teachers? also look at the competition at school for each subject, go for the one with smarter peers for support
