for chemistry, lots of things we learn in year 11 do we need them in yr 12? like for bio when we start year 12 , what we learnt in year11 dosn't matter coz we doing all over again (thats what i heard) but in chem do we need to make sure we know the yr11 topics well to prepare for year 12?

In prelim chem, a lot of what is applied is very similar but the topics are fairly different. For example its probably a good idea to know what a scientific investigation entails. You also need to know what a combustion reaction is, and how to balance relevant formulae...

so do we use lot of yr 11 techniques in year 12. so if you fail chem in year 11 then would that effect in year 12? im not talking about the marks ... the skills?

Definitely you will use some yr 11 stuff for yr 12 example calculations of moles/molarity/enthalpy , specifically the skills you acquire throughout yr 11 you will use them in yr 12.

u need polarity, moles, solubility rules, combustion...pretty much it.
You'll learn it all again in year 12 anyway

This.

You don't really have to pay attention in year 11, I didn't, and only really started learning chem start of year 12, and did decent, there isn't much and everything required is re-taught anyway (well should be)

yeah assumed knowledge should always be known and it definitely is hard in yr 12 if you forget a lot of stuff you learnt in yr 11

So basically, what sections/concepts of preliminary chemistry will we need before starting the HSC course?

I need to know because I haven't done my work this year, and I don't wanna screw up next year D:

Read kr73114's post, it pretty much sums up what you need to know in yr 12. Probably chuck in some equations as well.
