umm this is year 7 maths...

10 kB = 80 kb = 81920 b

time taken = (81920b)/(2400b/s)=34.13 seconds

10 x 8 = 80
Oh so your assuming there are 8 bits to a byte. (which is the normal, but it can vary to 7 sometimes and even 9 depending on error checking bits and ASCII)

Is it easy enough doing (81920b)/(2400b/s)=34.13 seconds without a calculator?

do you just guess and check until you get the correct or close to value.

8 bits per byte is the norm i believe

ummm primary school arithmetic...

It's a multiple choice question, and 34 seconds is one of the options.
.......________
2400) 81920

I was taught to do division that way, back in primary.

since 2400 goes into 8192 around 3 times with a 992 remainder which goes next to the last 0. which makes 9920, then 2400 goes into that around 4 times remainder 320. therefore = 34 r 320, therefore 34 seconds.

I would personally do it the way ohexploitable has done it and then round to the nearest whole number.

The most common maths questions that they could ask you in an IPT paper include:

*Bit depth calculations
*File size of an image with certain resolutions
*Audio sample rate
*Video processing
*Animation processing
*Packet transfer calculations with trailers, headers and payloads.

I think they'll only ask you these if you do the option topic 'Multimedia Systems' which 90%+ of the state does.

cant u use a calculator
No calculators allowed in the IPT exam.

When doing calculations you should assume that there are 8 bits per byte unless otherwise specified.

You may also be asked to find the file size of a database. It is in the core topic "Information Systems & Databases"
