Abbott has rejected the new proposed amendment. His alternative:

“I will be taking to our party room tonight a proposal for amendments which will put beyond legal doubt the ability of the government to send people offshore for processing, provided they are sent to countries which have acceded to the UN refugee convention,” he said.

“It will restore offshore processing while retaining offshore protections. It is in my judgment a much superior proposal to the one the government has put forward.”

Sophie Mirabella has been suspended from the house for 24 hours. Terrible timing.

Speculation the government will bring forward the vote on the migration amendments to tomorrow.

was considering a new thread but I'll put this here:

two minors locked up, which is morally okay, number one:

>go to foreign country
>huge amounts of publicity in home country's media about certain laws there recently
>willingly break that law with clear responsibility for your action
>put in prison pending trial for alleged crime

or number two:

>flee war torn country
>arrive in foreign country
>have no control over your own situation
>put in detention indefinitely with no charge or crime committed

according to the aussie media one of these is an outrage, the other one is ok

so if someone is suspended, and then there is a vote, what happens?
